Useful Definitions

 

 

Ecosystem Integrity – the ecosystem’s capacity to maintain it’s characteristic composition, structure, functioning and self-organization over time within a natural range of variability. (Pimente & Edwards 2000)

 

 

Ecosystem Type – reflects a distinct set of abiotic and biotic components and their interactions. SEEA-EA offers an ET reference classification based on the IUCNs GET, and refined for country/region specific needs.

 

Ecosystem Condition –Is the quality of an ecosystem measured in terms of its biotic and abiotic characteristics.

 

Ecosystem Extent – Is the size of an ecosystem asset.

 

 

Ecosystem Services and Assets – are the contributions of ecosystems to the benefits that are used in economic and other human activity’s. Each ecosystem asset is classified to an Ecosystem Type.
